We got into cosmetics completely by chance...
A GRADUAL AWARENESS
For a long time, I bought my cosmetics in supermarkets, pharmacies, and perfumeries.
Having no knowledge in this field at the time, my choices for this or that product or brand were directly influenced by advertising, marketing, cost, and the aesthetics of the packaging.
And then I began to become aware of the dangers of certain ingredients like parabens and nanoparticles, and so I switched to organic products.
WE SHOULD ONLY PUT ON OUR SKIN WHAT WE CAN EAT
In 2014, I studied naturopathy, where I learned a lot about human physiology and health. It was there that I discovered that the skin is a semi-permeable organ that protects the body from external aggressions, but it doesn't constitute a waterproof barrier, as various elements can pass through it.
This property makes it possible to administer various medications in the form of ointments, creams, patches, and transdermal patches.
But the skin can also allow toxic or allergenic substances to pass through, which then enter the body and are metabolized in the same way as the food we eat.
If I wanted to maintain my health, I had to be as careful about the food I ate as I was about the products I put on my skin.
THE LIMITS OF ORGANIC AND NATURAL COSMETICS
I then looked more closely at the composition and ingredients of my organic creams, and I realized that there were still a lot of them, that some could be more or less harmful, and that, in all honesty, I wouldn't eat the contents of those tubes of cream !
So I turned to vegetable oils because they're natural, there's only one ingredient, the oil itself, and they're safe to consume.
I tested and used different oils for three years, but I wasn't really satisfied with them.
And then I always had a greasy feeling because they didn't penetrate my skin well.
THE DISCOVERY OF ANIMAL FATS
So I decided to change my cosmetics again and began researching, which led me to discover that traditional cultures from every continent—the Egyptians, Native Americans, and the Inuit—revered animal fats and had been using them for centuries in their skin care and medicinal ointments.
I investigated the reason and discovered that animal fat is one of the most nutrient-dense foods.
Beef fat, for example, also called tallow, contains the following elements:
Composition of beef fat and comparison with the epidermis
This would explain why applying animal fat to your skin is so effective.
Moreover, while talking with some elderly people in my village in Lozère, I also learned that before the advent of modern cosmetics in the mid-20th century, our ancestors also used animal fat to care for and protect their skin.
So I rushed to search the internet for an animal fat-based cream, but I couldn't find any in France. However, I discovered that they had long been available in the United States, particularly on American sites like Amazon and Etsy, and that they had proven their worth, given the many enthusiastic user reviews.
But since shipping costs were high, I finally decided to make my own.
THE BIRTH OF DELOZALE
I got some beef fat from my butcher, melted it, and then performed several steps to bleach and deodorize it naturally. After various mishaps and various odorous and greasy trials, I finally obtained a cream that was perfectly usable as is.
So I tested it on myself, and the results were visible so quickly that my husband started using it and was delighted too.
This balm improved the condition of my skin so much that my friends noticed and asked me to make some for them too. They thought it was wonderful and quickly asked for more.
That's all it took for my husband and I to decide to produce it on a larger scale to benefit as many people as possible.
The DELOZALE brand was thus born on October 1, 2019, in La Canourgue, Lozère, on the ground floor of my grandfather's old tannery !
